I think one of the more challenging reading assignments throughout high school was a book by Tim O’Brien: “The Things They Carried.” The reason for that was the topics were always heavy or depressing. Yet I couldn’t find any interest…I’m a pretty happy-go-lucky type person and books like these don’t really fit my reading choice. However I think how I got over it/ how I was able to get interested in it was the fact that this is realty. The whole based off a true story actually happened. Basically I looked at the book as if I was watching a documentary, I had no choice or say in the story before me, because it all happened. In the end I finally gained an appreciation for that book and other books of that genre.
