Drafty-Draft Poem Project

Reflection:

Overall this one-book poem project has been an interesting process because, throughout the beginning of the piece, it was just a concept of time and nostalgia. But seeing words changing and ideas flowing with each page was interesting to me. I never could agree on the same word sometimes, like time, it always changes but some things stay the same. I think the hardest part of this project was coming up with an idea for the project. I first wanted to talk about losing someone but I felt that was too hard for me personally to write about. Then I got the idea to write about nature and my love for it. However, one day I had a conversation with a friend of mine who inspired me to write this poem. I was looking forward to coming up with an idea myself but I am much happier with this random idea the universe threw at me. What guided me to keep up with this theme was my friends. Seeing us all grow up and become adults and reflecting on the times we’ve had and hopefully continue to have is what motivated me the most. But most importantly the idea of seeing how this poem evolved through each glance was another interesting experience.

Reflection on the Book Itself:

I think creating the book was a very challenging task for me because I had no idea what I wanted to do with it. My original idea was to just draw and doodle on the book, which would represent me as an artist. However, to fully go with the Time in a Bottle theme, I decided to just draw a bottle with my watch inside of it. Surrounding those images are text blurbs of conversations I hope the reader can understand and relate to. These conversations I hope relay a sense of nostalgia in a way but also present that haunting end to every conversation. The back of the book shows how I break away from those ending phrases in conversations and the reason to hate the word “goodbye.” However, I fear it might be a bit confusing with its imagery. Furthermore, I guess doodling on the book was the idea I latched onto, I am not that much of an artsy person, but I try sometimes. So I hope the book looks appealing and simple but meaningful in a way.
