I think there’s a lot to love about this project, the idea of just taking a class about Africa was so fresh that I had to do it. To then create a project of my choosing was so inviting as well. When I chose to focus on how media affects our understanding of Africa, it was not an easy task. Picking different movies, literature, media, etc. was daunting at first. But Professor Berndt was super helpful in picking the criteria needed. Unfortunately, he isn’t here anymore. However, in regards to the paper itself, there’s a lot to love. I like the idea of the paper and the way I have the information cited. However, some rework needs to be addressed. For example, I talk about how certain movies about Africa only use it as a set piece and never as its’ own place. From there, I just jump into the next thought with zero transition or room to breathe. I also think I cover way too much throughout this paper, there are at least several different topics and a very loose conclusion to it all. I think going forward, I would like to cover less but go into more detail with the next revision. With that being said, Professor Alegre will step into Professor Berndt’s place and the topic will be on South America/Mexico to make things easier. Rob and I will be working together to get sources and ideas together to get the ball rolling.
