Hello, my name is Ben Fitzgerald and I’m a senior here at the University of New England with a graduation date of 2023. I am a history major. With this major, I hope to get my curator license and plan exhibits at museums. I love the outdoors and all animals. I have a pet axolotl and a cat. One of my favorite activities is cooking. I was a head chef at a Thai restaurant for 3 years. Fun fact, I originally was a marine bio major here and I’ve changed my major 3 times in total. Changing a major is not the end of the world, believe me. I thought I was lost when my first major fell through, but don’t stress, things have a tendency to work themselves out. I really hope that whoever reads this handbook really understands that a college is a new place where everyone starts from scratch. Don’t be afraid or worried about who’s popular, just live your life, that’s what we are all here doing. We are all here just trying to get our degrees out here, so just respect one another and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Being proactive is key to having a good experience in college.

Hello, my name is Cole Hauser. I am a junior here at the University of New England and am projected to graduate in 2024. I am a secondary education major with a concentration in marine sciences, I also have a writing minor. When I graduate I plan to teach high school biology and share my passion for the natural world with future generations. I am the vice president of the birding club on campus. I spend the majority of my free time in nature, watching and photographing different parts of the ecosystems. I especially enjoy watching birds. My favorite bird is the belted kingfisher, which is a bird that can be seen on campus. I am also a fan of owls, especially the snowy owl. Photography is another passion of mine, I love photographing the world around me. I believe that photos are an amazing way to capture the beauty of everyday life. When I am not out in nature, I enjoy playing and listening to music. I have been playing the electric bass guitar since I was in middle school and I still play in my free time. I also spend a lot of time listening to music. My favorite bands include The Clash, Weezer, Arctic Monkeys, and more. I like to keep a positive attitude toward school in general and I believe that everyone is able to academically succeed when given the opportunity.

Hey, my name is Cooper Robinson. I am a sophomore here at the University of New England and I will graduate in 2025. I currently do not have a major and I’m still working to see what it is I want to pursue. I think that whatever I decide to do in the future, I hope it involves being outdoors in an environment where I don’t have to sit in the same spot all day. I enjoy being outside and surrounded by nature. I love to swim and go on hikes with my friends when the weather is nice. Be careful not to mistake me for the active type as I also love watching movies and being as lazy as possible. I understand better than anyone the importance of this handbook as I struggled a lot with my academics as a freshman. I really could’ve used some simple advice like this book but maybe that’s important. Part of college is understanding that there isn’t always gonna be an easy answer and you might have to discover some things on your own. Everyone reacts differently to new environments but we are all capable of greatness and sometimes just need a nudge in the right direction.

Hello, my name is Haley Crosby and I am an undecided sophomore here at UNE and plan to graduate in 2025. I came into UNE as an undecided major, and I am still searching for something I truly want to do. Outside of schoolwork, I love to dance. I am on the dance team here at UNE. I am also a teacher at the dance studio where I grew up at. At my studio, I teach hip-hop and choreograph for dance competitions. I love listening to music and spending way too much money on concert tickets. My most recent concerts have been Harry Styles, Panic! At The Disco, and Greta Van Fleet. I am also a commuter student so at first, it was hard to adjust. I am driving around 40 minutes each day to be here which can be very boring. Luckily I eventually got used to the drive. For anyone reading this I just want you to know it’s ok to not have a major when you first come into college. I have been able to explore these first years and rule out what I don’t want to do. Once I pick my major I will most likely stay with it and not have to switch like most of my friends have. My main advice would be to just take your time, there is no need to rush.
