Coach

I had the opportunity to interview the coach of the dance team here at UNE. Her name is Courtney Joy and she actually graduated here from UNE nursing in 2021. During her time here at UNE, she was a part of the UNE dance team so it’s super interesting how she is now the coach of the team. Courtney explained how it’s important to keep a good balance and put yourself out there. Try something new at UNE, you could meet your best friends when doing this. Being open to change is so important, Courtney explained “Be open to change and do not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone! There are a lot of amazing opportunities for you to take advantage of at UNE, but it is up to you to embrace them. You will find your people. I did not immediately have a best friend on campus, and I will admit that I had a hard time with that. However, it was worth the wait because the friends I found have had a huge impact on my life and they made my time at UNE so memorable. Lastly, do not be afraid to get involved in clubs, sports, and activities on campus. I was always concerned about having enough time to do homework while also taking part in a sport. While it is important to have good time management to get your work done, it is also important to have a work/life balance and make time for the things you enjoy. For me, that was Dance Team. It took up a lot of my time, but it kept me motivated to get my work done and do well, while also providing me with some of my favorite memories from UNE. Work hard, but don’t be too hard on yourself, and enjoy your time here at UNE. Four years sounds like a long time, but believe me, it flies by!” It’s interesting how Courtney is not only a coach but she attends UNE just like the rest of us. It’s ok if you don’t know what you want to do as soon as you get to college. Courtney didn’t know what she wanted to do once college was over. She actually changed her major three times before deciding that nursing was what she wanted to do. Just remember college is a time for you to figure yourself out, you aren’t supposed to know everything right now.
